Please join us in celebrating this month’s spotlight surface designers, Monday&Co. We know you’ll find their story inspiring!
Please introduce yourself.
Hello! We are Monday&Co, a creative studio located in Barcelona, Spain, specializing in pattern design for fashion, home interiors, and stationery. Founded in 2020 by Anna (Spanish) and Débora (Brazilian), we spread our tropical and Mediterranean freshness to the whole world.
Tell us a little bit about your design journey.
We met in 2019 while working as pattern designers in the very stressful industry of fast fashion in Spain. During lockdown we decided to create a studio that represented all the values we have in common.
Monday&Co arises from the certainty that sharing skills and experiences makes us more complete. We believe in a place where knowledge, ideas, inspiration, and stories are shared. This is the secret of our universe full of colors, textures, and creativity.
We are convinced that together we can go further, but above all, that the journey will be much more enjoyable.
Do you have a favorite portfolio design or client collaboration?
One of our favourite collaborations is the one we did last year with the English brand Töastie. They create outerwear that encourage children to create a deeper connection with the environment. Their products are technically designed to keep them cozy and warm so they can free their adventurous spirits without being uncomfortable. We’re always delighted to collaborate with amazing companies that strive for a connection with nature and care for the planet.
We created for them two designs for their puddle suits, one inspired by a liberty flower but adding little dragonfly and ladybird fairies. Since then we have continued to collaborate with them on new projects that always turn out beautifully.
What or who are you inspired by?
Nature is one of our greatest sources of inspiration. Débora focuses more on leaves, plants and fruits, being Brazilian, it is an undoubted reference for her. Anna likes to focus more on the textures of materials, stones, abstract forms of nature in general.
On the other hand, last year we started a series in our blog to share with our followers those women artists who inspire us with their work, so every now and then we publish a post about a woman artist who inspires and motivates us in our creations. We started with Florence Broadhurst and the last one we talked about was Yayoi Kusama. If you know of any artists you think we might be interested in, don’t hesitate to let us know!
What do you like to do outside of surface design?
We have two very different profiles and slightly different hobbies, but we both share a love of art and enjoy visiting exhibitions together. We also love cinema, theatre, and everything related to culture.
We also enjoy hobbies such as pottery, tufting, or any kind of manual work. Since we created Monday&Co we focus all our energies in this project so dear to us.
When you look back at your design journey so far, what are you most proud of?
One of the things we are most proud of is that we have managed to create our own print design studio and have been lucky enough to attend several international trade fairs such as Premiere Vision Paris.
It was a goal that has been in our minds since we started designing prints and we are very happy that today it is a reality.
